Mini blinds is one of the most annoying home accessory to clean and perhaps can be found in all sort of building, found in government facilities, banks, and apartments. Has dirt, dust, dander and possibly cigarette stains discolored your blinds to a point of no return? If so, replacing them is not your only option. There is a simple way to bring life back to your blinds.
You will need 6 simple elements:
- Your dingy blinds
- A degreasing agent (for harsher stains) or a grease cutting dish detergent
- Your bathtub
- A Cloth glove or old wash cloth
- A Dry towel
- A dryer sheet
How To Clean Blinds
First, extend the blinds fully and place in the tub, opening the blinds slightly, one way or the other. Fill the tub with warm water, allowing the blinds to be completely submerged then add the degreasing agent (disperse generously). Let blinds set for 5-10 minutes allowing the agent to loosen buildup.
Submerge washcloth or glove in bath water then place them so they cover your index finger and thumb. Next put both fingers on either side of each individual blind segment gently rubbing either side. Run your fingers along each segment multiple times ensuring all surfaces are cleaned. Continue this process until the entirety of the blind has been covered. When done, drain bathtub.
After the tub has been drained, pick up the blind completely and utilize the showerhead to rinse off completely. Let the blinds drip-dry slightly, them place on a dry towel. Let the towel soak up any excess water then blot dry the entirety of the blind.
Repeat this process for each individual blind and I assure you that your blinds will be rejuvenated. It is also recommended that one rubs a dryer sheet over the entire surface to maximize blind life. This will reduce dust, dirt and hair from attaching itself to your blinds.
Weather permitting; it is also possible to clean the blinds outside. Hang the blinds from a nail, spray thoroughly with a hose then spray a degreaser solution that is prepared in a spray bottle. Let the solution set for 5-10 minutes. Lightly spray again with a fine mist. Wet your glove or rag and clean as was described above. Thoroughly spray the entire surface and allow to air dry.
